What is Taekwondo

Taekwondo is an effective and superior form of martial art developed from ancient Korean fighting arts. It uses all the famous dynamic kicking techniques combined with powerful hand strikes, blocks and punching. The techniques you will learn are:

* Basic stances, blocks, dodges and body movements.
* Foot techniques such as side kicks, front, back, and turning kicks, downward axe, knee and spinning heel kicks, with pushing, snap, piercing, thrusting and smashing kicks. As well as consecutive and multi directional kicks in conjunction with stepping shifting and jumping charges.
* Various other practical kicks in combination with hand techniques such as elbow, fist, palm, finger and knife hand strikes.
* Attacking techniques to about 69 major and minor vital points.
* Also you will learn various techniques and different styles of self defence against holds, against knives, bars and weapons as well as joint locks, leg sweeps etc.
* More advanced Taekwondo students learn multiple breaking techniques with hands and feet.
* In all grades Taekwondo patterns are learnt which are composed of the various techniques of the art.
* The ultimate result of the art is the cultivation of a disciplined mind, body and spirit.

It has developed into an international sport and demonstration game that was admitted to the Olympic games for the first time in the 1988 Olympics at Seoul, South Korea.
